STOP pound seizure--

STOP giving our pets to research--

a fate worse than death.

What is pound seizure? Pound seizure is the practice of "seizing" dogs and cats from shelters and pounds to sell to the biomedical research industry (their fate is death, sometimes after long-term agonizing studies).

What can you do? Two things; Send letters or call and donate to the cause. Read on for more details.

STOP which stands for Stop Taking Our Pets is comprised of members from several different groups already working hard to end pound seizure and rescuing dogs and cats from the pounds that still continue this barbaric practice. Our initial focus is Montcalm County, Michigan, and stopping pound and shelter animals from being given or sold into research. There are only 10 animal dealers left around the country that take animals from pounds and shelters and sell to research—and three of them (including the biggest) are in Michigan

The only way we can stop this is to get the word out--create noise. And for the noise to have the maximum impact on the Montcalm County Commissioners, we need to get the local folks to make noise as well. So we are undertaking a campaign to get the word out --locally through newspaper ads, postcard campaigns directed at the Commissioners and billboards -- and nationally (perhaps internationally as well) through the internet, letter writing campaigns and media attention.

*** We are in need of donations to help us raise public awareness on this horrific practice and put local as well as national and international pressure on the Montcalm County Commissioners. We only have a few months so we need to work quickly to raise funds. We would also be interested in any organizations sponsorship on this effort, so please contact us if interested! ***

Or you can send a payment via paypal at stoptakingourpets@yahoo.com

**We are also looking for solid connections with national media. If anyone wants to be actively involved in the working process, please contact Polly Sack at psack@gatehousemedia.com **

.Remember, together we are powerful. Thank you all for helping stop the ultimate betrayal of our best friends - the ultimate betrayal of public faith in the county "shelter" system.

02/03/09 Tuesday Stanton Updates

02/03/09 Tuesday

Below is a list of updated dogs to tell you about. As of right now we have seen a large support in more local rescues to help save the dogs, so they obviously take first priority in helping these dogs out to safety as it is quicker and cheaper to coordinate, so we are ok there, but we do still need help finding adopters for the dogs listed on Grand River Rover Rescue (Lakeside Kennels) if you are interested in adopting a Stanton/Montcalm dog.
Sunny: the Golden: GROMM has already been up and evaluated the dog and is ready to pull him if he is not adopted. There is another woman in Bay city who would foster him for Orphan Animals if for any reason GROMM did not take him.
Kiwi: Mid Mich Boxer Rescue committed to Kiwi as soon as she hit the shelter.
Scooter: Sheltie rescue is taking him if he is a purebred and Last Day and Carole Powell both want him if he is not a purebred. If Carole Powell takes him there will be no need for any money as they don't charge her. If Sheltie rescue takes him it would be great if there is money to pay the bail fee as they are smaller and could use the help.
Hannah: the Beagle is the only dog listed as of Sunday that there was no one stepped up for yet.
Sara and puppies: This is Sara the “dalmation” mix, she was surrendered to the shelter by her owners along with her seven puppies. They are all in need of a good home. They are all available for adoption! There is listed as 7 but the shelter told me today that 1 was adopted.
Diesel: Pit young boy that the shelter told me he was adopted, but I think he was the pit we pulled this am to go to the HS of Kent~I will check on this!
West: Dachshund~This is little West. He is a very friendly little guy. He is about 1 year old and full of energy He will be available for adoption on Feb.6Th!
Wilma: Beagle~She is not as old as she looks. She is probably only 4-6 years old. She is very sweet and well mannered. She will be available for adoption on Feb.6Th!
River: he is as friendly as can be and will sit for just about any kind of treat. He is a very high energy dog who will need a family who can allow him plenty of exercise. He will be available for adoption on Feb 5Th!

Oakley: was adopted from Montcalm today or yesterday so that is one less dog we have to arrange rescue for!!!!!
Sunny: the Golden: GROMM has already been up and evaluated the dog and is ready to pull him if he is not adopted. There is another woman in Bay city who would foster him for Orphan Animals if for any reason GROMM did not take him.

And we have the Humane Society of Kent County here as back up for anything that gets urgent although I do need to clarify with them what the stance on pit bulls is.
